About karyn
Karyn Krupsaw is a classically trained musician with a unique style and recognizable compositional voice that brings filmmakers back to her studio for project after project.
Karyn's love of music started early in life. After begging her parents for music lessons for years, she finally began learning to play piano at the age of 6, and by 10 years old was accompanying choirs. She continued with piano and choirs through school, culminating in a Music Minor from Washington College, where she also directed and arranged for the a cappella choir.
After beginning her film scoring career as a self-taught composer with a feature documentary and short horror film, Karyn completed the UCLA Extension Film Scoring Certificate Program and rounded out her scoring education with courses from Berklee Online. Since then, Karyn has continued to score films in genres ranging from comedy to thrillers and everything in between. Karyn participated in the Palomar Film Music Workshop in 2019 and the Women's Weekend Film Challenge (now the Moonshot Initiative) in early 2020. She joined Illuminating Music Group, a women's composing collective, and her music with IMG can now be heard on Amazon Prime Video. Karyn also trained with JoAnn Kane Music Service, and now does freelance orchestration, additional composition, arranging, score preparation, and copyist work for other composers. These include award-winning Australian composer Jacquie Joy, as well as David Boman, for whom she did orchestration and score preparation on the 2023 Meg Ryan feature "What Happens Later".
Karyn works on her scores from her home studio in Los Angeles, CA.
